Is it safe for a 21 year old female to travel alone in Chicago, IL?

I'm currently in IL, but not from here. I've never been to Chicago and would like to go on a day trip to Chicago for "Tastes of Chicago". I would be riding a bus leaving in the morning and returning at 6 at night. I would be going alone. Is this incredibly stupid of me, or do you think I would be ok - I will just be going to Grant park and tasting all the food and then coming back home. Any tips or suggestions would be very welcomed.
